A Walking Tour of Newport’s Historic Houses of Worship

Please join us on Monday, December 23, to celebrate Newport, the cradle of religious liberty in America, and experience a variety of holiday traditions when nine historic houses of worship open their doors to the public.

The Open House will run from 12 – 3 p.m. at the following locations:

Channing Memorial Unitarian Church, 135 Pelham St.
Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 42 Dearborn St.
First Presbyterian Church, 4 Everett St.
Newport Congregational Church, 73 Pelham St.
St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 61 Washington St.
MenorahSt. Mary’s Catholic, 12 William St.
Touro Synagogue, 52 Spring St.
Trinity Episcopal Church, 141 Spring St.
United Baptist, 30 Spring St.

Learn about the participating houses of worship and their contributions to Newport’s significant history of religious freedom and diversity. Visitors will experience the beauty of these structures while seeing how each brings its own traditions to the holiday season.

Parking at some locations may be limited, especially those near Washington Square. Visitors to Touro, Trinity, United Baptist, and Newport Congregational are encouraged to park at the Gateway Center and walk the short distance to these locations. Others, such as Emmanuel, St. John’s, and St. Mary’s have parking lots at or near their sites.
